Going to college can be an intimidating process for anyone. Leaving high school and home for the first time and marching into a world of unknown is a daunting task. But, knowing what to bring with you can help you along with the process. You don't want to be in a new place without the things you will need in order to survive. You may feel prepared already but until you really think about what you need you may not be thinking about some things that can make your life a lot easier. Some things such as clothes, backpacks, school supplies, etc are obvious, but some may not be as obvious as you think.
The most important thing is a computer and a laptop is probably the most convenient type to buy. A computer may be an obvious item for you to bring but you would be amazed at how many people think they can get through college just by using the computer lap. It may be possible but you are really making your college life a lot harder than it needs to be. Along with a computer you will probably need a printer because you will be writing a lot of papers.
You might want to also consider bringing a bicycle. Most people don't think about a bicycle because they have never had to walk to a class that may be a half mile away. Once you get to college you may have classes on the opposite sides of school and only have 10 minutes to get there. If your school allows you to ride bicycles on campus you may want to look into buying a cheap one, especially if you won't have a car. You can ride your bike to the store, to meet friends, or to run short errands.
Bringing a compact refrigerator and/or freezer can be quite helpful as well. It is not as necessary as the other options but have a small refrigerator to keep some grocery fresh can really help you out. Even if you have a pass to the cafeteria it will not always be open and you will wish you had snacks or food to eat. Keeping fresh fruit, leftovers, and other snacks can be a life saver when you are pulling those all nighters. There is nothing worse than trying to pull an all nighter while you are starving. If you are allowed to bring in mini fridges you might want to really consider picking one up for your move to college.
